Terror… Madness… Death… all wait within these walls.

Horror

When Nurse Wilma Wilson came to work for Old Man Lee she had all the best intentions but soon discovers that she can just not avoid his evil eye. It had to go. But unfortunately the old man’s black cat is also getting on her nerves and that relentless raven won’t leave her alone either. To make matters worse, chopping up the old man’s body and hiding it in the walls of the house is no easy task when his daughter, Lenore shows up suddenly one evening just after the deed has been done. Nurse Wilson didn’t want to bury that ax in Lenore’s brain. It was an accident. She really just wanted to kill that evil cat that has escaped within the walls of the house but how do you explain that when Lenore’s college boyfriend, Allan and his best friend, Alfonso show up on her doorstep looking for Lenore? It’s impossible. They will have to be dealt with as well.

As the body count continues to grow and Nurse Wilson’s sanity unravels more and more, there may be nobody left to tell the tale by the end of the night!

“A prolific writer/director, Kanefsky largely accomplishes his goal of making a hip modern horror film with loads of laughs.”

Synopsis · Also known as Dead Scared (UK)

The story of The Hazing

One Halloween afternoon, sultry college girl Jill (Brooke Burke) visits the eccentric Professor Kapps (Brad Dourif) in hopes to seduce him into a better grade. But Kapps has other plans and attacks Jill to sacrifice her to revive his evil book — The Saviour Of Souls, an ancient, mystic book said to open portals to other dimensions.

Meanwhile, at the local fraternity, an eclectic group of pledges Roy (Jeremy Maxwell), Tim (Parry Shen), Marsha (Tiffany Shepis), Doug (Phillip Andrew), and Delia (Nectar Rose) are given their initiation assignment: an elaborate scavenger hunt, and a haunted night at “Hack House”, a deserted mansion once the scene of a grisly murder. The evil Saviour of Souls book is on the list.

Doug and Marsha sneak into Kapps house to “borrow” the book, but Kapps discovers them, and in their ensuing panic, they inadvertently cause Kapps’ apparent death. They run from the house, taking the book with them, unaware of the evil they hold. At Hack House, the five pledges try to settle in for the night, but are plagued by strange occurrences: Jacob (David Tom) and Justine (Charmaine DeGrate), are hidden in a secret control room and determined to give the pledges a good scare.

But Kapps, while mortally injured in hospital, is still alive. His demonic spirit leaves his body and flies to Hack House, causing every door and window to bolt shut. Kapps’ spirit confronts Doug in the cellar and uses the gateway to possess the terrified Doug’s body instead. The possessed Doug then torments and tortures all the pledges, who do their best to fight him. Soon it is just left to Delia and Tim to fight the evil alone and prevent Kapp’s spirit from getting back the book.

Synopsis, credits & Blu-ray special features

Mike is always getting in the way of fun. His obsession with horror movies and their rules dictates that no matter where he goes, he can’t help but expect to find a monster lurking around every corner. But this time, his paranoia might be justified…

After being invited to a remote lodge, along with some friends, Mike immediately begins to sense that something isn’t right, but none of his friends believe him. Unfortunately, they’re dead wrong, and a slimy alien frog monster has indeed landed in the nearby woods and set out to fulfill its mission of killing all human males and mating with females. Can Mike convince his friends that there IS something out there, before the men have their brains sucked out and the women are carrying green mutant fetuses?

Made by then 19 year old cinematic wunderkind Rolfe Kanefsky, THERE’S NOTHING OUT THERE is a gag and gore filled horror comedy which lovingly riffs on some of the genre’s most used tropes. Produced and edited by acclaimed editor Victor Kanefsky (GANJA & HESS, BLOODSUCKING FREAKS), Vinegar Syndrome presents the Blu-ray debut of THERE’S NOTHING OUT THERE, newly restored from its 35mm interpositive and featuring more extra features than any other title in their catalog, including Kanefsky’s first feature, MURDER IN WINTER.

What critics said about Nightmare Man

★★★★½

“Nightmare Man is a solid, whirlwind of a horror movie, with more twists and turns than a hula hoop competition… this is a tight script, much more taut than most genre films of late, and the storyline pays in spades. If straight up horror can be this complex… then you know you’ve got yourself a winner. And that’s exactly what Nightmare Man is.”
Amanda Reyes, Film Threat

★★★★

“One hell of a fun ride… Rolfe Kanefsky and cast inject the proceedings with such enthusiasm, that the film ends up being scary and fun. Tiffany Shepis is an absolute revelation… It’s another great movie from Kanefsky. Nightmare Man is a fun and frightening little flick that manages to cover some new ground, which in the B-movie arena is not an easy thing to achieve.”
Philip Davis Brown, Horror-Asylum.com
“Move over Michael Myers… Nightmare Man is a b-horror adrenaline shot! A tense nail biter… Rolfe Kanefsky and Tiffany Shepis’ best work yet!”
Brian Harris, JoeHorror.com
“Nightmare Man has great suspense and some devilishly clever, truly scary plot twists. Kanefsky zeroes in on the effect a sudden, unspeakable horror has on the lives of perfectly normal people. This is most evident in the incredible performance of Tiffany Shepis. She takes her role and infuses it with all the confusion, incredulity, and outright terror any real-life human being could possibly feel.”
Mitch Persons, Sirens Of Cinema
“Nightmare Man sports a great twist and it also has what I believe is the best climax of any of Rolfe’s previous films… By far the most suspenseful film Kanefsky has done… And if you are a fan of Tiffany Shepis, if you see only one of her films, it should be Nightmare Man. She’s outstanding.”
Rick L. Blalock, Terrorhook.com
“…great horror film… solid script, tense build-up, lots of suspense and horror, and fantastic lead performances by Blythe Metz and especially Tiffany Shepis. It’s low budget horror with big budget payoff.”
Owen Keenhen, RacksandRazors.com
